Low Poly Design

Image from creativeshrimp.com
In 3D digital modeling, polygonal modeling is an approach for modelling objects by representing their surface using polygons. The more polygons used to model the 3D model, the clearer and better looking the model will look.

But when it comes to low poly design, the point of it is, as you would have guessed based on the name, to use a low amount of polygons to represent a image to achieve a sharp, triangle-mosaic and sometimes colourful kind of look.

Here are some examples of Low Poly Designs:

Some of the most common tool to achieve the low poly look are:

  • Adobe Photoshop
  • Cinema 4D
  • Blender
  • Adobe Illustrator
The software that I used to achieve the low poly look is Adobe Photoshop. Basically, in Photoshop, you achieve the look by first choosing an image that you want to have a low poly look on, then using the lasso tool, outline triangles on the image layer and then apply the Blur --> Average filter. By repeating this all over the image, it will produced a low poly look. If there's enough demand, I'll put up a tutorial for it.

That will be all for this post, do comment below on anything that I missed or something that you like to add on. Do also suggest what I check out next in the comments. Thanks for reading, and see you soon!
